SLC has modern and updated classrooms, tutorial rooms, multi-purpose hall, seminar/conference rooms well equipped for blended learning. The College is fully equipped with state-of-the-art Computer labs, Science labs, Knowledge Resource Centre and Library, Sports facilities to upgrade knowledge, skills and capabilities of the students needed to groom them as future leaders. The college has added a new 2nd Floor to its existing building which was inaugurated as the 'Centenary Block' by the Hon’ble Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji. This new addition has given an immense boost to the infrastructure of the college with addition of 30 new classrooms, Multi-purpose Hall, 2 Innovation Plazas and 2 Computer Labs.
Shyam Lal College has 2 innovation plazas. They are a dynamic space designed to nurture creativity and collaboration among students and faculty. The infrastructure, including a seating capacity of 70 each,
advanced technology, and a variety of resources, plays a vital role in fostering a culture of innovation in the college.
With a flexible seating arrangement, the plazas cater to various activities including lectures, workshops, brainstorming sessions, group discussions and film analysis. Both the plazas have high-definition projectors
connected to a central sound system which facilitates the screening of videos and presentations. The plazas are equipped with whiteboards, charging stations, and high-speed internet access.
These amenities along with books, journals and digitally accessible material on innovation, technology and entrepreneurship are available to students and teachers alike.
The multipurpose hall constructed in the Centenary Block of SLC is a versatile 1,500-square-foot space designed to seat 100 people comfortably. Decorated with subtle college branding, the space maintains a neutral, customizable aesthetic suitable for a wide range of college events, from lectures and workshops to social gatherings and presentations. The hall is climate-controlled, energy-efficient, and provides high-speed Wi-Fi throughout. It has durable, easy-to-clean flooring, adjustable LED lighting, and large windows with blinds for flexible lighting options. The hall includes a large stage for presentations and is equipped with modern AV technology, including a ceiling-mounted projector, retractable screen, and sound system with microphones. The hall also has screens for video conferencing and webinars, along with a 360 degree rotation camera mounted in the ceiling. Along with these, the hall has podiums with pre-installed microphones for addressing the audience, especially useful during debates. The cushioned chairs offer comfortable seating for different events. The space is accessible for staff and students alike, with nearby restrooms and a small storage area for event materials. The background of the stage is customisable with provision for hanging large banners that give details of the events held in the hall.
In any institution of higher learning, the library is the storehouse of knowledge that plays a pivotal role. A modern library goes far beyond providing the readers with a large stock of books and periodicals, and a quiet, serene and comfortable place to study in. It is supposed to provide the readers information on the entire wealth of knowledge available on any selected topic at a mere click of a button. Apart from the physical books stocked within the library walls, it needs to provide the readers with access to shared e-resources from across the world.
SLC has a rich and well stocked ICT enabled library. It has a huge number of books and subscribed journals on diverse subjects. The library of the college has vast collection of texts, reference books, journals, magazines, newspapers and e-resources that are regularly updated by the library staff with recommendations from the concerned departments. The library staff annually organizes an orientation session for the first year students so as to familiarize them with the use of OPAC, e-resources and subject related books/material. The library also has OPAC facility to make the task of locating books easier for the students and the faculty. Built right below the Library, the reading room in SLC aims to create an engaging and comfortable space for students to study, read, and relax, with a balanced mix of functional and leisure elements. The reading room is designed to comfortably seat 80 students, featuring individual desks and chairs for focused study and a cozy area with five plush sofas for leisure reading and relaxation. The space includes well-lit study areas with outlets, and a quiet atmosphere enhanced by acoustic treatments. Natural light from large windows is complemented by adjustable artificial lighting, and climate control ensures a comfortable environment year-round. SLC has Four fully functional computer labs that are used by the students and the faculty for practical classes and other research related works. All these labs are fully air-conditioned and well stocked with all the latest software and hardware. These facilities enable the students to remain updated and to sharpen their skills in computing and related areas.
Besides these four well equipped computer laboratories that have many computers, there is also one knowledge resource centre where students and teachers can acquire abundant knowledge through e-resources by accessing world’s best databases, e-journals, e-books and reports in an easy and expeditious manner.It is located within the library premises and has the seating capacity of 50 with separate computer system in every cubicle.The computers are regularly updated with new software as well as with updated versions of existing software.
The facility is available on all working days from 09.00 a.m. to 05.00 p.m.
The college has five well-equipped Physics, Chemistry and Botany Labs to cater to the needs of B.Sc. Physical Sciences course that the college offers. The college is aware that with changing times and courses, these labs need to be continuously upgraded and updated. A large scale renovation of these labs has been completed, which places these labs among the best in Delhi University colleges with comparable courses. The college also has a Botany Lab, since the recently revised course has a single paper on Life Science.
SLC is an environment friendly campus with sprawling lawns, a well-stocked herbal garden and two plant nurseries and in addition, the College also conducts annual tree plantation drives, recycles the waste paper generated in the administrative block and also engages in E-waste management. The College is proud to report that Tree Plantation Drives are a regular feature of the SLC environment friendly programmes.
The College currently has wide number of plants and trees with herbs and shrubs. The College also has a very versatile Herbal garden which has a wide variety of kitchen seasonings and popular herbs with medicinal value. The garden is well maintained and accessible to the faculty who, time to time, make use of the facility. SLC also has three well-maintained and well stocked Nurseries which have a sizeable collection of small trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. The maintenance of the Garden and Lawns is by the Gardener.
The Sports Committee under the guidance of Sh. V.S Jaggi remained active throughout the academic session in its involvement with student participation in various games at National as well as University levels. Our students have participated both at National and Inter Varsity levels in different categories. The college’s banker M/S Central Bank of India is located within the college campus. The bank offers all banking facilities to the teaching and non-teaching staff as well as the students. Account holders may also avail the facility of internet banking. The college also has the ATM facility, from the same bank, installed at the main entrance of the college.
Canteen is a place where the students can refresh and rejuvenate themselves with wholesome food after a grueling learning schedule. It also provides the students with space and a relaxed atmosphere in which they interact with one another.
Keeping in view the importance of the canteen in the day-to-day life of the college, our canteen has been recently renovated and is fully air-conditioned now. We ensure that the canteen provides hygienic and healthy food items to our students, faculty and non-teaching staff at affordable prices. To monitor hygiene, quality and prices, the staff council, annually, constitutes a canteen committee. The canteen committee also addresses the canteen related grievances of the students. The students have the option of approaching the canteen committee directly or through their duly elected students’ union representatives for speedy resolution of their grievances.
SLC understands its responsibility towards conserving environment and takes certain environment friendly measures to make SLC a green campus. The College engages in environment friendly practices such as the use of renewable energy (Solar Plant), rain water harvesting, waste paper recycling and other green initiatives. Contributing to the purpose of saving conventional resources of energy, the College has gone ahead with the installation of solar panels, which is fully functional now. The installation of solar panels on the roof of the College has been an effective and easy way to introduce clean energy with proven technology. The project, involving connectivity of 85.25 Rooftop Solar Power Plant under RESCO, is able to meet 42% of our peak demands and on non-productive days and holidays when the power demand is low, surplus power goes back to the Grid for which we get due credit as the balance amount is deducted from the monthly electricity bill. The project has led to 55% of energy saving and the surplus power, going back to the Grid, is used for the consumption of Delhities. The aim of the College is to reduce demand, protect and replenish supplies and use alternative energy sources.
