Brief Profile

Dr. Rohan Mandal is an Assistant Professor, in the Department of History, Shyam Lal College (SLC), University of Delhi. Dr. Mandal has graduated from University of Allahabad in 1998. Thereafter, he joined Centre for Historical Studies (CHS), JNU in 1999-2001 from where he has specialized in Ancient History. Due to keen interest in International Relations, he subsequently did his MPhil. & PhD from Centre for Inner Asian Studies (CIAS) of SIS, JNU. The topic of his research was "Mongolia's Struggle for Independence and Statehood (1911-1924)". Dr. Rohan Mandal began his teaching career as an adhoc faculty at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College (for Women), University of Delhi where he taught for a year. He then joined the Department of History, Shyam Lal College in 2014 as a permanent faculty and since, last ten years has been teaching history to undergraduate students. In the meanwhile, for the last seven years, Dr. Mandal has also been tutoring and counseling as IGNOU Academic Counsellor to post-graduate students. During the course of more than a decade of his teaching career at undergraduate level, Dr. Mandal has taught several papers which mainly include, History of Modern China and Japan, Rise of Modern West, and Ancient Indian History. As an IGNOU Academic Counsellor, Dr. Mandal has also been teaching Historiography and Environmental History to students at post-graduate level. Therefore, as a result of his long teaching experience combined with coverage of wide area of the discipline of history, Dr. Mandal in his understanding of the historical processes has not restricted his vision and understanding of the present day dynamics of world history. He believes that an understanding of Ancient History has its relevance in the understanding the present World order while an understanding of World history in turn helps us to gain insight about the past societies. Publications: Dr. Mandal has written articles on Mongolian history and foreign policy and a review article which have been published in reputed journals. Areas of Interest: The area of Dr. Mandal's interest spans study of various aspects of Indian history and culture. He has a particularly abiding interest in the study of Ancient Indian culture and mythology. Besides, he is also interested in the study and understanding of wider processes that have impacted both the World history and the history of India.
