Innovation Council 2020-21

Innovation Council: SLC established Innovation Council (IC) under MHRD's Innovation Cell, an initiative launched in November of 2018. The primary mandate of Innovation Cell, MHRD is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas. SLC's Innovation Council works towards inculcating the spirit of innovation among students, and develop a start-up ecosystem. In IC, SLC students participate in mentoring sessions, workshops and innovative idea competitions. Since its inception, the IC, SLC has produced and developed very promising startup ideas such as Sajagta, Steam Power generator, Infollege, and Abhikalpana etc. The IC, SLC faculty members (4) have successfully completed the Ambassador Training Programme conducted by Innovation Cell, MHRD and it has received 2 stars since its establishment.

MHRD IC organized a POCs Participation and Regional Mentoring Session in a total of 12 cities of India, with the U.P. Uttarakhand and Delhi regions' one being organized by the Netaji Subhash University is Technology (NSUT), Dwarka, New Delhi. 6 students of Shyam Lal College with their 4 of the most promising startup ideas, namely Sajagta, Steam Power generator, Infollege, and Abhikalpana, attended the session under the supervision of teacher mentors.

The members of Innovation Council of Shyam Lal College visited the hub of Design Innovation Centre (DIC), University Of Delhi on 04/03/2020 under the guidance of faculty members. The purpose of the visit was to see the various product development activities, with a view to consider possible implementation of some of the activities at our own institute and promote a culture of innovation and creative problem solving. As a part of the visit, the members received knowledge about the way students carry out different projects, the challenges they faced in their paths etc.

The Innovation Council of Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi organized a virtual speaker session on 9th May 2020. This webinar titled 'Navigation Through Entrepreneurship', had Ms. Tanya Kapoor, a Mentor at Atal Innovation Mission, as the keynote speaker. The Webinar had its focus on how founders, students and sometimes even mentors have many misconceptions regarding entrepreneurship. Discussions went on clarifying a plethora of sub-topics such as Entrepreneurship vs.Intrapreneurship, Scope of Agripreneurship after COVID-19 pandemic, Women Entrepreneurship, and more.

REPORT WORKSHOP ON IPR & IP MANAGEMENT FOR STARTUP BY INNOVATION COUNCIL on 27.7.2021

Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi , in collaboration with IQAC, organized a workshop on "Intellectual Property Right and IP Mangaement for Start Ups" The workshop session was conducted on Tuesday, 27th July, 2021 on the virtual platform Zoom. The eminent speaker for the session was Mr. Mahendra Sharma, Director in the Department Of Professional Practice BSR and Co LLP(KPMG).The objective of this Workshop Session was to enlighten the students on the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management for Startups .
Around one hundred and fifty students, faculty members enthusiastically participated for the event. The participants were also certificated for the same. The session began with the welcome note by Dr. Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC, SLC and Dr Kusha Tiwari, Convener, IQAC.
The essence of the session was to demonstrate how the knowledge of intellectual property right holds importance and must be kept in mind while building a startup business. The workshop provided the students with vast knowledge on intellectual property rights, it's accounting and valuation which will be of immense help for the students with startup ideas looking forward to build their own startups. After the session came towards the end, the students and our faculty raised their queries related to the topic. The same were also addressed by our speaker.. The session was concluded with the key takeaway of the session was to impart knowledge on the IPR 's importance in today's startup oriented economy.
Dr Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC extended a heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Mahendra Sharma for such a provocative and thoughtful session and is looking forward for more such spellbound sessions in the near future.

REPORT FINAL ROUND OF NATIONAL LEVEL BUSINESS PLAN/ PROTOTYPE COMPETITION ON 29.6.2021

Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi, in collaboration with IQAC and E-Cell,in an attempt to strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit of the young generation, organized a National Level Business Plan/ Prototype Competition , the final round of which was conducted on June 29, 2021 on the virtual platform Zoom at around 11 am.

The competition was judged by our esteemed guest and expert DR. K.B. SINGH. He is an associate professor and head of department of commerce and financial studies at Central University of Jharkhand. The competition aimed at giving a boost to the problem solving attitude of the Indian youth and bringing forward innovative and unique business ideas which would not only make human lives easier and contribute towards sustainable development but also spark the spirit of entrepreneurship among the young generation.

An audience of around one hundred and thirty people, eight participants, student and faculty members of IIC,SLC enthusiastically participated and witnessed the smooth conduct of the event.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC. Further, Prof Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of the College addressed the gathering, and wished luck to all the participants. The National Level Competition witnessed active participation from students belonging to diverse academic fields.

The participants came up with very innovative ideas and insightful suggestions were provided to the participants on their business model by our honorable judge for the event which not only gave the students a broader outlook but also boosted their moral.

The competition was intense as the ideas presented were fabulous , among the winners were Anmol Agarwal (1st prize)3rd year student Shyam lal College, Sai Smaran ( 2nd prize) Deeksha PU College, Bangalore, Bhoomika Rastogi(3rd prize),3rd year student Shyam lal College, and Isha Gurnani (3rd prize) 2nd year student Shyam Lal college.

The event ended on a very positive note wherein the participants felt encouraged to work towards turning their business models into reality and becoming the entrepreneurial pillars standing on which the new and innovative india will reach new heights

Report "Mentorship Session For Students Entrepreneurs through Expert" on 29.4.2021

Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) of Shyam Lal College (SLC) in collaboration with E-Cell and IQAC hosted a "Mentorship session of Student Entrepreneurs" on 29th April 2021 with budding ideas on future innovation, entrepreneurial vision, start-up potentiality and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The leadership talk on April 29th, 2021 was thematically on opportunities for youth in Entrepreneurship Domain. The Session was delivered by Mr. Saurabh Jain, Founder – Fun2Do Labs, Ex- Vice President – Paytm. He brought to the discussion forum his experiences on transforming and ever-evolving entrepreneurial landscape in India.

The event began at 3 PM on Zoom (virtual platform) and around 110 participants (including teachers) keenly attended on the virtual platform. The session began with a welcome note by Dr. Monika Goyal (Convenor, IIC), Dr. Bharat Bhushan (Convenor, E-Cell) and Dr. Kusha Tiwari (Convenor, IQAC). Further, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of the College elaborated on the "Emergence of Entrepreneurship inadvertently in our daily lives".

Mr. Saurabh impelled the audience to think on a fundamental question of how and what are the innovative opportunities to youth in the domain of entrepreneurship? He addressed the gathering stating that its contemporary applications are merely the tip of an iceberg. However, it has a direct link to innovation-based aspiration to the entrepreneurial youth. The leaps that have been taken by the Tech-industry in the recent past are really prominent innovation-wise. However, with each subsequent day, there comes a novel technology that would change the realms of the society. With upcoming innovative implications of entrepreneurship, it seems that the previous innovations were inferior over recent and superior ones.

It was further conveyed that how entrepreneurship evolved. He presented a series of cases to prove that how early scenarios of entrepreneurship were, are and will be used in the daily life. Mr. Jain has also drawn several anecdotes from mass marketing, food security, precision agriculture and lots more. He also expressed the impediments, challenges of Entrepreneurship, Start-ups and what are the steps to be successful in that etc.. Later, he also enlightened the dilemmas on the concepts of potential innovation, AI, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, entrepreneurial mindset, start-ups.

He also talked about the novel impediments associated with Entrepreneurship in the times to come. The session was an interactive one with numerous queries being raised by the students, faculty members like sources of crowd-funding, angel investors, novel idea of resolving a social problem which was overwhelmingly addressed by Mr. Jain. The session was concluded with an intention of entrepreneurship majorly inclined towards innovation and enhancing the yield of next generation towards entrepreneurial outlook. Mr. Jain endeavoured to transform the outlook of the participants about entrepreneurship. "The solution lies to every problem and how it may serve the future of the world". This needs to be answered by the entrepreneur. Dr. Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC also extended the gratitude to Mr. Jain for such an edifying session and planned for similar sessions that need to be in pipeline.

ORIENTATION SESSION CONDUCTED BY INNOVATION COUNCIL, SLC on 30.1.2021

Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi , in collaboration with IQAC, organized a session on National Innovation and Start-up Policy for the student with the agenda of "Emphasizing on Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Higher Education Insititutions" The orientation session was conducted on Saturday, 30th January, 2021 on the virtual platform Zoom. The eminent speaker for the session was Prof Bibhu Biswal, co-coordinator DUCIC and Professor in Physics. The objective of this Orientation Session was to validate the product / business idea's potential and skills required by the startups and students to channelize those ideas into fruitful endeavors. The ideas discussed by the honorable guest were on the basis of Relevance and Validation of Problems, Societal and Technological Problem solving, Feasibility and Creativity in the idea.

Around one hundred and six students and sixteen faculty members enthusiastically participated for the event. The participants were also certificated for the same. The session began with the welcome note by Dr. Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC, SLC and Dr Kusha Tiwari, Convener, IQAC. Further, Prof Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of the College overwhelmingly invited Prof. Biswal and congratulated Innovation Council for organizing an elucidating session on the topic.

The essence of the session was to demonstrate the factors which are very important to guide the students like Business models, Ecosystem, Resources / Fundings, Policy, Process, Social Intelligence, Technology, Design, Capabilities etc. The event was discussed. After the session came towards the end, the students raised their queries and confusion related to the entrepreneurship innovations. The students� queries were also addressed and settled. Through this, it was endeavored to guide and galvanized students towards innovation-based learning, with an aim of boosting their creativity and knowledge. IIC team intended to resolve the problems with the help on innovation by inculcating the idea of Innovation, invention, digital age and collaborations. The session was concluded with the key takeaway of the session was to instill in the students the mindset of more innovative ideas for problem solving rather than the traditional ones.

Dr Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC extended a heartfelt gratitude to Prof Biswal for such a provocative and thoughtful session and is looking forward for more such spellbound sessions in the near future.

IDEA/PROOF OF CONCEPT (PoC) COMPETITION REPORT ON 18.01.2021

(QUARTER 2 )

The Institution Innovation Council (IIC), Shyam Lal College (SLC), University of Delhi organised a PoC competition inviting the students to National Innovation Contest (NIC). IIC, SLC opened the registrations for students with Idea/PoC Pitching & Validation and Institute Level PoC Competition This event was conducted by the main idea to validate the product or business idea's potential. The competition's essence was to demonstrate the competitive capabilities of students in innovations. Through this competition, it was endeavoured to motivate and guide students towards innovation-based learning, with an aim of boosting their creativity and knowledge. Besides, the IIC team intended to problems with the help of Innovation was another pivotal goal of creating the required amount to the fact that to give due considerations to Innovation based solutions and not just by traditional methods.
The event would not have been a success without the guidance and mentorship of our Honourable Principal, Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar and IIC Convenor Dr. Monika Goyal.

Initially, a google link was circulated on the SLC website for the inviting the Competition registrations. The event was open for the students of Shyam Lal College only and around fourteen students sent their participations intent. The screening of ideas was evaluated on the basis of Relevance and Validation of Problem, Societal Problem Solving, Feasibility of solution and Creativity in the Idea. After screening the ideas, five students were shortlisted. These students have further detailed their ideas and proposed plan of actions on 18th January 2021. The discussion and presentation took place before the College IIC team. The following five students have been nominated to the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education:

The College has always been a driving force for the students impelling them to experiment and excel in all the spheres of life. The College has often propelled the students towards the creative thinking by inculcating the Ideas of Innovation. The IIC team firmly believes that this is not the end of the Idea generation. Rather, a continuous mentoring of these students would be the need of the hour, so that the seeds of Competitions nurtures and evolves with times.

ORIENTATION PROGRAM ON NEW NEP 2020 BY PROF. V.K.KAUL HELD ON 25TH NOV 2020

ORIENTATION SESSION CONDUCTED BY INNOVATION COUNCIL,SLC

Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), in collaboration with IQAC organized a session on NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY with the focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. The orientation session was conducted on November 25, 2020 on the virtual platform Zoom. The eminent speaker for the session was Prof V K Kaul, Department of Business Economics, University of Delhi who had addressed more than 167 participants of the session. He immensely enlightened the pivotal highlights about the National Education Policy (NEP). He also elaborated on the possible facets of the policy to dive deeper into the aspects of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The session began with the welcome note by Dr Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC and Dr Kusha Tiwari, Convenor, IQAC. Further, Prof Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of the college greeted Prof Kaul and congratulated Innovation Council for organizing an elucidating session encompassing the unrestrained possibilities in NEP.

Prof Kaul has keenly shot his views and priceless perspective by introducing the concept of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in New Education Policy. Due the course of discourse, it was also clarified that Innovation is not just a primary process but also a perpetual process in every field. Discovery of new Ideas, knowledge and concept leads to Invention of technologies and business models which in turn leads to the Innovation and a fruitful Implementation. The process of commercialization and entrepreneurship was further ushered in. The notion of Innovation was advocated as the process which unites two distinct processes, invents a new knowledge. The Entrepreneurship was defined as a process which transforms a knowledge into a new set of value creation through distinct activities. Sir further shared a handful of anecdotes on the Global Crisis. Covid 19 Pandemic has altered the mobilization levels of global resources. He also gave information on US-China Tech wars (beyond a Trade-war) quoting that "World will be dominated by the one who control and dominate in Artificial Intelligence". Coming to the status of India in Innovation, he pointed out various emerging challenges like unemployment, modern technological changes etc. and confessed that this NEP would transform the Education policy after more than 30 years and will also be a game changer for all. This policy is expected to fetch a major quantitative as well as qualitative changes in the Education System. The Institutional Governance as its integration on essential subjects, skills and capacities of an individual would open up new ways in life. The session was concluded with key takeaways by Prof Kaul that this NEP is inclined to sharpen the skills of a student to make him more self-reliant and efficient to serve the future of the nation. Dr Monika Goyal, Convenor, IIC also extended a heartfelt gratitude to Prof Kaul for such an inspirational session and looking forward for more such sessions in the near future.
