About Department
The Department of Chemistry is one of the most esteemed academic departments of the College. It offers the B.Sc. Programme in Physical Sciences,
and the University of Delhi has approved the B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry course, which has been introduced in the College from the academic session 2017–18.
The department is supported by a team of committed and competent faculty members who continuously strive to guide students toward academic excellence and professional growth. Faculty members are actively engaged in various university-level responsibilities, including question paper setting, evaluation,
and participation in academic committees.
Students are assessed at regular intervals through class tests, assignments, projects, presentations, and interactive classroom sessions to ensure continuous academic development.
The department is well equipped with two lecture theatres and modern laboratories containing the necessary chemicals and instruments for practical training. The laboratories house a range of scientific
equipment, including spectrophotometers, conductivity meters, pH meters, flame photometers, colorimeters, UV–Visible spectrophotometers, centrifuge machines, and digital balances.
The Department also runs an academic society, “RASAYANIKA,” which regularly organizes seminars, conferences, workshops, festivals, and educational visits to industries, laboratories, and research institutes.
These activities provide students with valuable opportunities to interact with academicians and industry professionals, and to participate in summer internships, innovation projects, and educational excursions.
The department actively promotes the adoption of innovative teaching and learning methodologies. Overall, it aims to integrate strong foundational knowledge of chemistry with contemporary research developments to enrich the learning experience.
